What is that sound? AH, I think it is the Winds of Change and Growth for Green and Sustainable Home Building in Houston, Tx! Read through this and let me know if you think this is the case…

Houston has always been known as a hub for Energy and Oil companies. We have companies with offices here from all over the world. Well, on October 4, 2007- Mayor Bill White made a statement in regards to the City making efforts to be more Energy Efficient. He states that they will be using LED Traffic Lights, Energy Star Vending Machines, and many other avenues to save “over $34,000 a year in electricity costs and reduce annual CO 2 emissions by 277 tons.”

He then went on to state that “…Our goal is to make Houston the energy conservation capital of the world. It makes good business sense..” and he hopes that other Businesses in Houston will follow.

What a Fantastic way to raise the bar and help achieve the goal of Energy Conservation and even lead the way to more Renewable Energy in Houston.

If Mayor White’s plan takes hold, what will that do for the Real Estate Industry in relation to Green and Sustainable Homes? Could it raise more interest in Green Building over the next 3 years? I would think so. As more and more businesses decide to be proactive and head towards Energy Efficiency, it makes sense that there would be a domino effect in to the Residential Market.

Is Houston ready for this Green Explosion? I would like to think so.

I would like to Thank Mayor White for his efforts in Energy Efficiency and getting the word out on how it can benefit anyone and everyone.

If you would like to view the website that the City has set up to find out how you can save money on Energy, you can see it at Power to People.
